Edisto Island

Edisto Island, located in Colleton County and about 45 minutes south of Charleston, is known for its unique charm and famous antebellum plantation estates that were, once, a legacy of the English and Spanish settlers who came to the island from the 1500's to the 1790's.

These plantations produced rice, indigo and the famed Edisto Sea Island Cotton, which was considered one of finest cottons in the world and accounted for the affluence of early Edisto Island residents. These plantations are now declared as historical sites by the National Register of Historic Places.

You won't find street vendors hawking their wares or souvenir shops on every corner in Edisto Island, one of the last surviving unspoiled beach communities in the United States, giving you a "raw" beach living experience.  You will enjoy a casual, relaxed lifestyle, thanks to its refreshing beauty as well as its welcoming island hospitality.

If you ask any local why they love living there, everyone will agree that it is about just plain relaxing, whether hanging out in the marina and watching the colorful boats or spending hours walking on the beach, picking up shells, or biking, fishing or crabbing.  There will always be something for someone to do on this island!
